What is The Carbonator?
The Carbonator is an application that we are developing for reading and managing your digital comic book collection. The Carbonator is initially simple in form, and supports CBR, CBZ, and CCX formatted comics. From a technical perspective, it is a Java based application. The initial beta for The Carbonator is on Windows, however we intend to support Mac and Linux shortly after the beta is completed.

What is CCX, and why should I care?
One of the ailing issues with the digital comics industry has been the security surrounding digitized comics. Other industries face similar problems for other types of visual literature. Publishers are legitimately concerned with piracy, as CBR and CBZ formats offer no protection to the publisher, and PDF provides limited protection. Additionally, CBR and CBZ formats are very limited in functionality. They do not support niceties such as meta data, animation, and sound.

Carbonated Comics has developed a proprietary file format that partly addresses these concerns. While the format is not a guaranteed bullet for piracy, it lays the foundation for publishers to secure and sell their content online. The initial beta release of CCX and The Carbonator already help reduce risks to publishers and artists from piracy on Bit Torrent and the like. This is important for consumers and publishers, as it provides a lower risk channel for providers to sell content and consumers to buy that content. For more information on the specifics of the file format, contact Carbonated Comics at aj.hazen@carbonatedcomics.com.
